Summit traveled to Westfield to take on the best team in Union County. Will Gibson had his first start and got the Win. Patrick Smolyn took the mound with one out in the sixth and got the Save. This was the first victory over Westfield in many years.
Summit scored a run in the 1st when Will Hellings had a lead off double, advanced to 3rd when Danny Isralowitz beat out one of his classic bunts. Hellings scored on a Matt Reddy’s fielder’s choice.
Summit added 3 runs in the 3rd. Isralowitz was safe on an error and scored on a Reddy single. Emory Carlson was walked and Reddy and Carlson scored on two Westfield errors.
Summit added another run in the 4th. Isralowitz got on via a dropped 3rd strike, stole 2nd and scored on a single by Reddy. Summit added a run in the 5th. Greg Vlass singled and advanced to 3rd via a bunt and a walk. He scored on a wild pitch. Summit added an insurance run in the 7th when Vlass was safe on an error, moved to 2nd on a wild pitch, and scored on an Andrew Miller single.
