North Plainfield brought an 0-6 record to Tatlock so Summit had every reason to hope for a relatively easy victory. The game statistics would seem to support their hopes. At the same time, the game pointed to some potential issues. Tyrone Hines took the opening kickoff and returned it 46 yards to the NP 38. Three NP penalties and 4 yard run by Joe Lusardi, (who was starting for the injured Max Jackson) put the ball on the 12. Jackson Tyler ran the last 12 yards to score. Will Goldy made the extra point. Things looked good. However, NP returned the kickoff 85 yards, went for 2 points, and suddenly were ahead 8-7.

Summit got to work with two drives (63 yards and 60 yards) that put Summit ahead 21-8. The first drive culminated in a 20 yard pass from Schluter .to Hayford, and second came on a 1 yard run by Schluter. So the quarter ended with Summit up 21-8. The 2nd quarter started with a 85 yard, 13 play, drive. That ended with Joe Lusardi scoring from the one. The lead was now 28-8 and the fans were feeling comfortable. The atmosphere change quickly when NP connected on a 48 yard TD pass. Following a Summit lost fumble, NP again scored 45 yard pass. In the blink of an eye NP had closed the gap to 6 points. Summit had shown a weakness for giving up big plays.

The 2nd half began with Summit kicking off. On the 2nd play of the half, NP’s runner broke loose on 67 yard run on what looked like a sure TD. However, Summit caught up to the runner who fumbled the ball at the 3 and Summit recovered. What looked like a sure TD, and the lead for NP, was stopped.. That took the wind out of NP’s sails. Summit would go on to mount three scoring drives in the 3rd quarter to finally put the game out of reach
