| Summit travelled to Union Catholic to battle for the honor of playing the Patrick School in the Quarter Finals of the Union County Tournament. Summit was seeded 10th and Union Catholic was 7th. Summit was in charge in the 1st quarter, out scoring UC 15-7. UC came back strong in the 2nd quarter and led 30-29 at the half. Ten of Union C’s 30 points came at the foul line.
The 2nd half opened with Summit turning the ball over on it’s first three possessions, leading to layups. That allowed Union C to build a 7 point lead. That was essentially the margin at the end of the game. Notes: It is always easy to “blame the refs.” But the unbalance in calls was extreme. Union C went to the foul line 28 times to Summits 8 and Union C hit on 20 foul shots to Summit’s 4 points, Malcolm Sidebottom led Summit;s scoring with 14 points.
