It was a sad end to a wonderful season of basketball. Summit went into the State Tournament as the 3rd seed. Their opponent, Warren Hills, was the 14th seed. However, the Blue Streaks charged to an 18-11 first quarter lead. Summit managed only 8 points in the 2nd quarter, all of them by Malcolm Sidebottom. The half ended with Warren Hills ahead 27-19.
The real damage occurred in 3rd quarter. As Summit struggled to gain traction, Warren Hills built their lead to 14 points as the final 8 minutes began. Late in the 4th quarter a flurry of three 3-pointers by Finbar McCormick pulled Summit to within 4 points. A costly turnover and Warren Hills free throws in the final minutes sealed Summit’s fate. Notes: Sidebottom ended with a game high 26 points. He also finished the season with a team high 429 points, 297 of those points came from 3-pointers (53.5% of his attempts). Sidebottom also led at the foul line with 58 points and the best percentage of 84%. Dom Yorio was the leading rebounder with 119. Summit finished with a 17-6 record and will have the entire team back for next year. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
