Rahway came to Summit ranked 20th in the state and favored to win the North 2 group 3 Sectional crown. However Summit had other plans. In the opening drive Joe Lusardi featured a 51 yard run to Rahway’s 16, Max Jackson took it 15 yards to the 1 and Lusardi scored from there. Wow that seemed easy. However, Rahway took the kickoff and 9 plays had a 1st down at Summit’s 11. A major penalty forced a field goal try that missed. Summit was forced to punt on their next possession.

Rahway rushed to Summit’s 39, but Jack Kelly made the 1st if his 2 interceptions and retuned it to the Rahway 30. Five plays later Lusardi caught a 16 yd Schluter pass for a TD and ran in a 2 point conversion to put Summit up 14-0.

Midway through the 2nd quarter Summit forced a punt and got the ball on Rahway’s 43. Runs by Max Jackson and Lucardi moved the ball to the 5. Lucardi caught a Schulter pass for a TD and Summit was on top 22-0. But don’t count Rahway out. They took the kickoff a five plays later the score was 22-6.

Summit kcked off to start the 2nd half and 8 plays later Rahway scored to make score 22-14. To make matters worse they bottled up the Summit offense. Starting the 4th quarter what had looked easy was down to a one TD game and Rahway had the ball. Ten plays later they had a 1st down at Summit’s 16 yd line. But Jack Kelly came to the rescue with an interception at Summits 13 yd line.

At this point Max Jackson took over. He ran the ball 15 yds for a 1st down at Summit.s 30 yardline. On the next play Jackson did what he does best. He plowed through all the Rahway defenders and raced 70 yards to to put the game out of reach.

Summit would score again when Schulter connected with Kelly for a 38 yard TD pass.

Summit will take on Ramapo HS @ 10:AM Saturday in Met Life Stadium for the North Group 3 Championship
