It has been years since Summit and Delbarton have met in basketball. Both teams started with the same 7-1 record. The teams are natural rivals since many Summit athletes transfer to Delbarton after Middle School. This was a barn burner from the beginning. The game was tied 15-15 at the end of the 1st quarter, Delbarton was up 2 at the half, but Summit regained the lead by 5 entering the final quarter..Midway through the 4th quarter Summit’s lead was 58-50.
In the final minutes of the 4th quarter Summit’s shooting went dry as they missed a pair of layups that would have put the game away. Delbarton slowly crept back into the game and eventually tied the score at 58.
Summit’s layup problems persisted in overtime and Delbarton won by 5 points. It ws a thrilling game with both teams play at high speed.
Eric Baier led Summit’ scoring with17 points. Dom Yorio (14), Malcolm Sidebottom (13) and Will Hellings (10) all were in double digits. Sidebottom and Jackson Tyler both hauled do 8 rebounds
