Jason Flores continued his winning ways as he gained his 4th win of the season and his ERA dropped to 0.83.
Parsippany had many scoring opportunities, but good defense and clutch pitching stranded 10 Parsippany
runners in the first 5 innings. Jason, who has been suffering from back pains, was relieved by Jon Campagna
in the 6th, and he got credit for the save. A near tragedy occurred when the second batter that Campagna
faced in the 6th hit a Texas leaguer over 1st base resulting in an horrendous collision between Kai Donaldson
(who had replaced Jon at 1st Base) and Kyle Bennett. Both players fell to the ground and for a moment
appeared to be unconscious. Meanwhile the batter raced all the way to 3rd before Bennett revived enough to
get the ball to another fielder. The batter had to be credited with a triple, but it was almost a pop fly out. At the
end of the play Donaldson lay writhing in agony and was holding his knee. Eventually Kai was able to leave
the field under his own power, but it was a scary moment. The runner eventually scored on a 2-out single to get
Parsippany's first run. A lead-off homer in the 7th finished the scoring for Parsippany.
Summit jumped into 2-0 lead in the 1st on a single by Brendan Reilly, a double by Jared Chellevold, a
sacrifice fly by Bennett and a single by Joe Mormak. Two more runs were added in the 2nd when Campagna
opened the inning with a walk that was followed by 3 infield hits by Josh Lypsey, Duane Dates and Reilly.
The last single driving in a run. The second run of the inning came home when the 2nd baseman dropped a
popup by Chellevold. In the 4th inning Chellevold hit a home run over the left field fence to make it 5-0. The
final Summit score came in the 5th when Campagna again was walked and came home on a big double by
Dates.
