It is good to be back at the computer writing up a game after 9 days without baseball (and only 1 game in the past 12 days). Summit pulled the rabbit out of the hat in the 1st extra inning when Joe Mormak's base on balls forced home the winning run to get Summit to the Semi-Finals of the UCT. Summit deserved this one, but we thought it might slip through our fingers. With the score tied 4-4 in the bottom of the 7th a single by Kyle Bennett was followed by a huge double by Mormak that normally would have scored the runner from 1st but concern about the ball being caught held Bennett up, and instead we wound up with runners on 2nd and 3rd. An intentional walk to Ben Wheeless loaded the bases, but 2 outs later they died on base. Then in the 8th a leadoff double by Duane Dates was followed by a single by Brendan Reilly but again we only wound up with runners in 2nd and 3rd. After a ground out, Kyle Bennett was walked to load the bases again with 2 out, but this time Mormak worked a walk and the game was ours.

Jason Flores was the starting pitcher and pitched 5 great innings, allowing only 3 hits and no runs. During those innings he walked only 1 and struck out 9. His ERA has now dropped to 0.55 having thrown 14 straight innings without allowing a run.

Summit built a 4 run lead through 5 innings. Summit scored 2 runs in the 3rd on singles by Fred Luberto, Brendan Reilly, Jared Chellevold and Ben Wheeless. We added 2 more in the 4th on singles by Josh Lipsey and Fred Luberto (who batted in Josh, and then scored when the left fielder dropped a sinking ball by Chellevold). Brendan Reilly relieved Flores in the 6th inning and struggled a bit at the beginning (he had only pitched 3 innings in the last 4 weeks, and those were in the rain at Mt. Olive,). Two walks and a single loaded the bases for Johnson in the 6th. A long double cleared the bases and made it 4-3. A throwing error on the next ground ball prevented the 2nd out. A popup produced the 2nd out. The next batter hit a hard fly to right that Bennett made a good move on to get to, but the ball popped out of his glove and the game was tied at 4-4. Brendan Reilly settled down and held Johnson scoreless in the next two innings. He got credit for the win.
