Summit advanced to the semifinals of the State Sectional tournament with the help of some superb pitching by Brendan Reilly. Reilly pitched the first 6 innings and allowed only 2 hits and no runs. He was relieved by Jon Campagna in the 7th inning because Reilly had reached his limit of 10 innings in 4 days. Summit made the most of its hits, scoring 6 run on 6 hits. Summit jumped to a 1 run lead in the first when Reilly singled and Kyle Bennett doubled. Summit added 3 more in the 3rd inning as Duane Dates led off with a walk and then stole second. He was driven in by Fred Luberto's single. Reilly then singled and an error by the right fielder allowed Luberto to score from first and Reilly to reach 3rd base. Ben Wheeless brought him home on a ground out. The final 2 runs came in the 6th inning. Wheeless and Joe Mormak singled. A sacrifice fly by Campagna drove in Wheeless. Josh Lipsey got on when Dover's 3rd baseman made a error on his ground ball. A bad pick off throw allowed Mormak to score. Campagna pitched a fine 7th inning, but 3 Summit errors allowed 2 unearned Dover runs to score. Campagna eventuall struck out the side to secure the win. Summit meets Chatham on Tuesday may 26th at Memorial.
