Summit led for the entire game except the final 50 seconds. A major turning point occurred at the end of the 3rd quarter. Summit was up 8 points and was in-bounding the ball at mid court with 3 seconds on the clock. The in bound pass went astray and Chatham threw up a desperation shot from just beyond the center line. To our dismay it went in. So instead of a possible 10 point lead it was only 5 and Chatham was pumped up. Chatham took advantage of the momentum swing and outscored Summit 7-2 in the first few minutes of the 4th quarter. The game, that had looked like it was Summit's, was now up for grabs. A basket by Brian Rush and another by John Foushee seemed to put things back in proper order at 43-39. Unfortunately 3 points by Chatham put the score at 43-42. Chatham's Palma hit a layup at the 50 sec mark to finally give Chatham the lead. Down the stretch Summit had its opportunities to go ahead, but nothing worked.
Summit started fast as Duane Dates'11 points and Brian Rush's 8 points provided all but 6 of Summit's first half points and helped Summit to an 8 point lead. John Foushee got hot in the 3rd quarter and had 10 of his game high 17 points. Summit was called for 13 fouls to Chatham's 7. Chatham was 8 of 13 from the line while Summit was 1 of 3, a 7 point swing.
