This win qualified Summit for the State Tournament, but it wasn't as easy as the score might indicate. Summit took a 15 point lead into the 4th quarter and many of the fans thought it was in the bag. But Hanover Park didn't give up. Two 3s and lots of fouls called against Summit allowed HP to draw within 7 points. What's more, HP had the ball. Fortunately, Matt Von Klemperer hit 4 FTs in a row down the stretch to help keep our boat afloat. Brian Rush and Kai Donaldson each contributed 2 Fts and John Foushee one more. Those 9 free throws in the 4th quarter made the difference. Except for the 4th quarter Summit was clearly in charge of the contest. We jumped to an 11-3 1st qtr. lead led by Brian Rush's 6 points. The lead grew to 13 at the half as Brendan Reilly drained 3 consecutive 3s and John Brown added a fourth 3. The lead grew in the 3rd quarter with John Brown contributing 5 points and Duane Dates hitting for 4 of his 8 total points.

Hanover Park 68 - Summit 67

The ending of this game was a travesty as the officials blew it big time. Summit was up 67-66 (in a furiously competitive game) with only 3 seconds left on the clock. HP inbounded the ball, there was a scramble for the ball and Summit knocked it OB. But the clock didn't start, still 3 seconds left. With one second left HP was called for a charging foul and we were ecstatic. But wait, the refs reversed themselves and put HP at the foul line. They made both to take the lead. Then with 1 second left the ball was inbounded with a long lob to Forsyth, but before the ball was even touched by Kurt the horn blew ending the game. A clear violation, but it stood and the game was over.
