Newark V/T appeared to have a significant height/weight advantage, which they put to good use as they jumped to a 4-0 start. But Summit turned up the defensive pressure forcing a number of turnovers. At the same time Stephanie Bruce caught fire with 4 FG's and 3 for 3 at the foul line to build a 17-6 advantage. Six unanswered points by Newark left the score 19-12 at the end of the quarter. Summit continued their full court press throughout the 2nd period and held Newark V/T to a mere 2 points. At the half the score was 33-14 and things were pretty well settled. Newark V/T used its weight to advantage in the 3rd quarter and cut the lead to 14, but they were never really back in the game. Stephanie Bruce led Summit with 17 points, Danielle Proper had 12 and Marissa Kellogg was also in double figures with 10 points. Liz Bomgaars, Katie Allegrini and Molly Monroe, brought up from the JV squad for the tournament, saw action in the closing minute. Molly Monroe was fouled and, to the vocal delight of her friends, got in the Varsity record book by sinking 1 of 2 free throws
