What a tough game to lose. Summit started slow and was down 9 points (27-18) at the end of the half . Summit had employed a zone throughout the 1st half and was killed by UC's McDonald as she scored 15 1st half points. Stephanie Bruce was largely responsible for keeping us in the game as she had 9 1st quarter points. Coming out in the 2nd half Summit returned to its aggressive man-to-man defense and held their own in the 3rd quarter, closing to within 8 points. Summit really stepped up the defense in the 4th and had UC on the ropes as they went on a 13-4 run to grab the lead lead 42-41 with 3:27 left in the game. The score didn't change for the next 1.5 minutes as Summit hung very tough on defense and missed a couple of layups on offense. With 49 sec left UC went to the foul line to shoot 2 free throws. They missed both, and Summit got the rebound, but Danielle Proper was called for clapping her hands after the shooter had been handed the ball (a very obscure call). As a result, UC got another free throw. They missed again but this time UC's McDonald wrestled the rebound for a put back that put UC back on top. With 14 seconds left Summit in-bounded the ball and worked the ball for a shot, but unfortunately the clock ran down before Summit could get off a shot. It was a great comeback that showed real determination. But it ended in heartbreak.
Stephanie Bruce led the Summit scoring with 15 points and Marrisa Kellogg was superb on defense in the 2nd half, holding UC's McDonald to only 4 points.
