Emlen Fischer pitched a complete game but a bad 3rd inning did him in. In the other five innings he allowed only 1 run and 3 hits. However, in the fateful 3rd, after 2 singles and 2 outs, Fischer temporarily couldn't find the strike zone and walked 3 of the next 4 batters. A big triple then cleared the bases and gave Caldwell 6 runs. Except for that stretch Fischer was in good control of the game. Summit took a 2-1 lead in the top of the 3rd inning when Ryan Carey started off by drawing a walk. With one out, Josh Lipsey singled. Then after another out, Ben Wheeless was walked to load the bases. At this point Jon Campagna delivered a single down the foul line scoring Carey and Lipsey. Summit chipped away at the Caldwell lead in the 4th inning when Matt Benedetti led off with a triple and scored on a ground ball by Nick Monaco. Another run was added in the 5th when Mike Nelson got on when Caldwell commited its only error. Nelson moved to second on a wild pitch and was driven in when Ben Wheeless singled. Campagna was walked to put runners at 1st and 2nd with only one out. But a popup and a ground out ended the inning. Summit thrteatened again in the 6th inning when Brian Dunnder, who had take over in left field, tripled with 2 out, but a fly out ended the inning. With the score 7-4, Summit's last chance came in the 7th when Nelson and Wheeless started the inning off with solid singles. But Caldwell's Boddie rose to the challenge with 3 straight strike outs.
