The season opener was played in on-and-off drizzle. While it
didn't end happily, there were a number of positives. Ben Wheeless
pitched a fine game, holding a strong Delbarton squad to only
3 hits. Actually, he held eight of their starters hitless since
all three of their hits were credited to their DH Pugh. Summit
out hit Delbarton with four singles off Delbarton's ace, Caffery.
Two errant throws to first base led to Delbarton's first four
runs. The first came on a pick off play and the second on a roller
back to the mound. Summit scored it first run when Josh Lipsey
drew a leadoff walk, stole 2nd and scored on a sharp single up
the middle by Mike Nelson. Nelson figured in the
other Summit run when he started the 6th inning with his second
single, moved to second when Kai Donaldson was walked,
and scored on a throwing error by the second baseman.
Jon Campagna was seen wobbling on a sprained ankle.
He hopes to return to action early next week.
