Emlen Fischer was down a run after the first two pitches. The first pitch resulted in a triple over Brian Dunnder's glove and the second pitch was a hard single down the 3rd base line. A Summit error allowed the second run of the inning. Two quick hits in the second led to two more Mendham Runs. It looked like the pattern would repeat in the third when Mendham got back-to-back singles with one out, but a smooth 643 double play ended the inning. Summit finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the thrid when Josh Lipsey drew a walk, stole second and Ben Wheeless' single drove him in. Wheeless, in turn, stole second and was driven in by Fischer's single. This gave the Summit Fan's hope that our losing streak would not go to three games. But it was not to be for Mendham scored three in the 4th on a walk, a double and two singles. More runs were averted when Summit turned another 643 double play in the fifth. This marked the first time this seasont hat the Hilltopper's had turned a pair of double plays in a game. Summit's rally hopes were raised in the 7th when Bill Wheeler drew a lead off walk and the Mendham pitcher was struggling with his control. Lipsey, the next batter, ripped a shot down the third line but it went right into the glove of the third baseman, who then doubled Wheeler off first. Instead of two on and no outs, it was two outs and no one on. Subsequently Mike Nelson singled and Wheeless walked and the fans lamented what might have been.
