This was quite a pitchers duel and was a game no one deserved to lose. Jon Campagna started and pitched 5 terrific innings, allowing only 2 hits, no runs and only one walk. Unfortunately, over those same 5 innings Summit managed only one hit, and that runner was erased via a double play. In the Mt. Olive 6th Emlen Fischer came in to relive Campagna. Fischer walked the first two batters and then got the next batter to strike out. With a 2-1 count Mt. Olive called for a hit and run. The batter hit a deep shot to short. Ben Wheeless fielded it well and made the long throw to first to get the second out. But the Mt. Olive coach decided to send the lead runner home, Campagna (now playing first) whirled and threw home, but the runner slid in just under the throw. The next batter struck out, but the damage was done and MO had manufactured a run with no hits and some aggressive base running. Summit's last chance came in the top of the 7th inning. Mike Nelson got things started with a single. Matt Benedetti hit a sharp single between the 1st and 2nd baseman, his second hit of the game. But in one of those freak plays the ball hit Nelson's helmet and Nelson was declared out. Instead of runners on 1st and 3rd with no outs Summit had a runner on 1st and one out. Ben Wheeless excited the crowd with a sharp blow to left, but the fielder managed to get to it. A sharp grounder to the third baseman by Campagna ended things.
