Ben Wheeless pitched his best game of the year, allowing only three hits and one earned run. He clearly deserved to get a win for his efforts. As an indication of how well he was pitching, he needed only 80 pitches to complete 7 innings. Parsipppany, hitless through three innings, started off the inning with their first walk. The runner was sacrificed to 2nd and scored on Parsippany's first hit of the game. They took a 3-0 lead in the 6th inning when they singled with one out. A fly ball produced a second out. A ground ball to third was thrown to second of an easy force out that would have ended the inning. Unfortunately, the throw was high and went into right field. The next batter hit a high foul to right that was curving foul, the fans held their breath, but it dropped right on the foul line and two unearned runs crossed the plate. Wheeless just couldn't get a break. Summit rallied in the bottom of the 6th. Mike Nelson started things off with a solid double. Ben Wheeless laid down a perfect bunt that no one had a chance to field and Jon Campagna worked the pitcher for a walk to load the bases with no outs. A sacrifice fly by Emlen Fischer brought in one run and Matt Benedetti's walk reloaded the bases. A strikeout made it 2 out. Brian Dunnder was walked to force in the second run and the fans were hopeful, but a ground ball to the second basemen ended the rally. Summit had one more chance in the 7th when Mike Nelson got on with a single with one out. However, two outs ended the game.
