Emlen Fischer pitched a six hitter, allowing 4 runs,
in 6 2/3 innings to get the win. Ben Wheeless came on in
relief to get the last out of the 7th inning. Par Hills grabbed
a 1st inning lead on a single, a stolen base and a throw in the
dirt at 1st base. Summit threatened in the 2nd inning when
Jon Campagna led off with a major double, that might have
been a triple if Campagna hadn't been hobbled by a sprained
ankle. A single by Matt Benedetti would normally have brought
Campagna home, but his ankle just wouldn't cooperate. However,
in the 3rd inning Mike Nelson doubled and Ben Wheeless
drove him home with a single. This brought Campagna to
the plate and he promptly hit a towering shot, into the wind,
over the centerfield fence for a two run home run. That way he
wouldn't have to run around the bases at high speed. Summit added
another run in the 4th inning on two walks and error by the Par
Hills shortstop. That made it 4-1, but the lead wouldn't last
long. Par Hills' leadoff hitter walked and was moved to third
on a single. After a strike out, a medium ground ball allowed
the runner on third to score on a close throw to the plate. A
wild pitch advanced the runners to 2nd and 3rd. They scored on
a single to tie the game at 4-4. To start the 6th inning Matt
Benedetti led off with a single and Brian Dunnder
laid down a scarifice bunt to move him to scoring position. Bill
Wheeler, pinch hitting for Adam Breene, was sent to
first when the catcher interfered with his swing. Shaken a bit,
the Par Hills pitcher hit Josh Lipsey to load the bases.
A long sacrifice fly by Nelson, that was caught at the
fence, brought in the winning run. In their last at bat, Par Hills
led off by getting on base with an error but Fischer got
the next batter to hit a line drive right to him and he doubled
the runner off 1st base. After a base on balls, Wheeless
came in to get the final batter to ground out on a fine pickup
by Nelson and great scoop by Kai Donaldson.
