Ben Wheeless pitched a nice six hitter that could very
easily have been a shutout. Unfortunately, West Essex managed
to manufacture a pair of runs and the Summit bats just weren't
able to produce any runs. WE's Guthrie really had Summit's number
as only four balls were hit out of the infield. In the WE 5th
inning two singles got a runner to third with one out. On a squeeze
play the next batter laid down a great bunt that scored the first
WE run. Then in the WE 6th inning a single and two walks loaded
the bases. The runner on third base headed from third in an attempt
to steal home. The pitch was a slow curve that got away from the
catcher and the run scored. It was a tough on to lose.
