Summit lost a hard fought game in the finals of the Suburban
Classic against a very good Chatham team. The night before Chatham
had crushed Hanover Park by 20 points, a team Summit had lost
to by 9. Summit played their best 1st quarter of the season as
they grabbed a 16-12 lead as Kurt Forsyth and Ryan Carey
led the way with 5 points each. A pair of 3-pointers by Gerano
Tan and another 5 from Forsyth allowed Summit to end
the half with a 27-24 lead. The story of the first half was foul
calls. Everything went agaist Summit as the refs called 11 fouls
on Summit and only 2 on Chatham. This resulted in 10 of Chatham's
24 points. In the 3rd quarter Chatham began to assert itself and
a pair of 3's gave them a one point lead. As the 4th quarter began
Chatham ran off 7 straight points to build their lead to eight
and things looked dark. However scores by Jon Campagna
and Forsyth cut the lead to 3. Chatham built it back to
to six with a 3-pointer. A field goal by Keyon Smith and a 3 from
Carey kept it close, but Chatham was able to sink their
free throws down the stretch to perserve the win.
