This can only be described as a tragic loss. Except for
a brief moment in the 3rd quarter, Summit led the entire game
and held a 3 point lead with 9 seconds to go. Summit was at the
foul line shooting a one-and-one and a chance to put the game
out of reach, but the foul shot was missed. Dover got the rebound
and Dover's Jermaine Thompson hit a long distance 3 pointer with
one second left to send the game into overtime. That missed foul
shot wasn't the only chance that Summit had to put it away in
the final 40 seconds. On two previous occasions Summit missed
the front end of one-and-ones.
In the overtime Jon Campagna quickly put Summit up by
two, but Dover answered with a field goal and a free throw to
go ahead by one. Ryan Carey put Summit back up by one on
a driving field goal. Dover regained the lead on another field
goal. With 13 seconds on the clock an egregious foul call on Carey
gave Dover two free throws. They sank them both, now Summit needed
a three to stay alive. Summit got the ball to Campagna
on the wing and he got off a three, it looked good, but rimmed
out. Kai Donaldson got the rebound and fired it out to
Kurt Forsyth for another 3 point attempt, but that too
was in and out.
Keyon Smith led Summit's scoring with 14 points (8 in
the 2nd half). Summit hit on 22 of 46 shots (48%)
