Heavily favored Parsippany got all it could handle from
a determined Summit team. Coach Pendergast, knowing that Summit
couldn't win an up-tempo game, employed a very deliberate offense
that slowed the game by working the ball extensively looking for
the right shot (Summit only took 32 shots but sank 15 for a fine
47%). The strategy worked to perfection as Summit kept the scoring
in the 30's and with 10 seconds to go was within a 3-pointer of
sending the game into overtime. Summit got off a good shot, but
it rimmed out.
Kurt Forsyth had tied the game (32-32) with 2 min. left,
but Parsippany had answered with 2 field goals and things looked
pretty dark. With only 25 seconds left on the clock Ryan Carey
hit a 3 pointer to make the score 35-36 and keep our hopes alive.
Summit was forced to foul and Parsippany's Smith hit both ends
of a 1 and 1 to give them a 3 point lead and set up Summit's final
3 point try. You had to be proud of what was a great team effort.
Forsyth led all scorers with 14 points. Keyon Smith
contributed 7 key first half points, but left the game mid-way
through the 2nd quarter with an injury.

Summit started fast with 17 first quarter points, led
by Lamar Freeman's 9 and and Ron Bigger's 4. Unfortuantely
Parsippany came back in the 2nd quarter to tie the score at 24-24.
A tight 3rd quarter was highlighted by Dan Dugan's 6 points,
but Summit was down by one (34-35). In the 4th quarter Parsippany
grabbed a quick 7 point lead (37-44), but a 3 by Bigger
and a free throw by Chris Jones narrowed the gap to 3 points.
But time was running out and Summit needed to foul and hope they
missed the front end. But such was not the case and Parsippany
put it out of reach 45 - 41
