Summit faced a tough opening task as they faced one of last
year's best Iron Hills teams that had all it's starting five back.
Summit was hampered by injuries that sidelined its two senior
players who had major experience from last year (Kai Donaldson
and Keyon Smith). Summit's starting five consisted of four
juniors and a sophomore. Par Hills was big and quick and turnovers
in the first half really hurt. Things got off to a very slow start
with Summit only getting 2 points From Ryan Carey. From
there on Summit played PH fairly even, getting to within 6 points
in the 4th quarter. Unfortunately, PH's fire power from Ellis
Sherrod (22 points) and John Morant (15 points) was just too much
for Summit. Jon Campagna drew the assignment of guarding Morant
who had 4" and probably 50 lbs. on Jon. Campagna gave
Morant all he could handle before fouling out in the 4th quarter
following a couple of suspect foul calls. Kurt Forsyth
led Summit's offense with 14 points and Jason Holmes contributed
11.
