If all you did was look at the final score you would think
it wasn't much of a game, but you would be dead wrong. This was
a thriller. A team of Sophomores and Juniors (still playing without
John Martini) played a powerful Parsippany Hill squad even
for 30 of the games 32 minutes. This was a game of runs. PH openned
an early 11-2 lead and things looked bleak, but Summit answered
with a 10-1 run to end the 1st quarter down 13-12. The 2nd quarter
opened with an 11-0 run by PH, but again Summit answered by scoring
the final 10 points of the half to make it close again. The last
3 of the 10 came on a long range 3 pointer by Jon Campagna
with 1 second left in the half. Summit took a lead for the first
time in the 3rd quarter at 27-26. An exchange of baskets left
the score 29-28, but PH ran off the last 5 points of the quarter
to grab a 4 point lead. PH built that lead to 6 late in the 4th
quarter. With about 2 1/2 minutes left Kurt Forsyth was
fouled on a jumper and the PH player was called for a technical
because of his reaction. Forsyth drained all 4 of the free
throws and Summit got the ball out of bounds. Jon Campagna
hit a jump shot to tie the game at 37. PH scored the next 5 points
but Ryan Carey drove the lane to score to pull to within
3. But time was running out and PH was just too good at the foul
line as they sank all 4 of their foul shots down the stretch.
Forsyth led Summit's scoring
with 18 points and Campagna added 11. Summit sank 14 of
37 shots (38%). Summit is faced with the need to win both
games next week if they are to qualify for the State Tournament.

Summit won a hard fought battle by scoring their final
6 points from the foul line. Summit fell behind early and was
down 5 points at the end of the 1st quarter and then slowly chipped
away at the deficit. At the end of the 3rd quarter Summit held
a slim two point lead (36-34). With the scored tied 43-43 Summit
hit 4 free throws to take a 4 point lead. A PH field goal closed
the gap to 2 points. Two more free throws made it 49-45, but PH
hit a 3 pointer to make it a 1 point game, and that is how it
ended. Freshman Dan Dugan had a big night with 26 points
