This was another heartbreaking end of game loss. Summit
had rallied from a 37-33 deficit starting the 4th quarter to a
47-39 lead with 3:26 left to play. Union Catholic fought their
way back to 50-49 with 60 sec. left, but two free throws by Kai
Donaldson made it 52-49. Summit again went to the foul line
with 30 seconds remaining and a chance to put the game out of
reach, but both shot failed to drop. Union Catholic had a final
chance. Good defense kept them from an easy 3 point attempt. With
2 seconds on the clock UC's Morgan had to fire an off balance
3 that had no chance, but the referee claimed he was fouled. Morgan
calmly drained all three free throws to send it into overtime.
Summit failed to get a field goal in the overtime and another
close one slipped away.
Kai Donaldson led the Summit scoring with 16 points,
while Keyon Smith and Kurt Forsyth were both in
double figures with 14 and 12 points respectively. Summit had
a mediocre shooting night, hitting 38% of their shots. Summit
had lots off opportunities at the foul line, but sank only 48%
(14 of 29) of their shots.
