Summit kept their State Tournament hopes alive with an exciting
come from behind win over Weequahic. Playing in what could pass
for a Swedish sauna (it had to 85-90 degrees in the gym) Summit
couldn't seem to get it act together in the first half. To make
matters worse Summit was without the services of defensive standout
John Martini. Martini hurt his ankle in the Morris
Hills game and will probably be out for the Par Hills game too.
Summit started the 2nd half down 4 (29-25) but Ted Schraft
had a hot hand scoring 9 points in the 3rd quarter to help Summit
go up by one (42-41) starting the 4th. Summit enlarged its lead
to 4 (52-48) half way into the quarter, but 2 quick field goals
by Weequahic tied the game. A Schraft field goal made it 54-52,
but Weequahic answered to tie it up at 54. With a minute to go
Kurt Forsyth made it 56-54. After Weequahic failed to score,
Forsyth went to the foul line and sank one of two free
throws to give Sumit a 3 point lead with 30 seconds to go and
that's how it ended.
