Summit escaped with an overtime victory that was anything
but easy. Bita Yektashenas replaced the ailing Junior star
Stephanie Bruce and did a bang up job. Cranford employed
a tight zone defense that gave Summit some difficulty as they
jumped to a 12-10 lead in the first quarter. The lead see-sawed
in the 2nd quarter but ended with Summit leading 21-19. In the
3rd period Summit opened a 6 point lead but Cranford closed to
end the quarter down two. In the 4th quarter the teams traded
baskets and Cranford grabbed the lead 39-37. With little time
left on the clock Marrisa Kellogg hit a layup to tie the
game and send it into overtime. Kellogg broke a scoreless
two minutes of overtime when she hit a field goal to put Summit
up by 2. Lauren McMenamy sank two free throws to build
the lead to 4. Cranford reduced it to 2 with a minute to go, but
Yektashenas scored on two fast break layups to put the
game out of reach. Summit's scoring was led by Danielle Proper's
13 points, with three others at 10 points (Kellogg, Yektashenas
and Nemes)
