The gym was packed with the biggest crowd of many years and
the game got off to a good start. Summit employed a tough zone
that initially stopped Mendham in its tracks. In fact, Mendham
was held scoreless for the first 5 minutes. Unfortunately, Summit
managed only 2 point itself in that same time. The first quarter
ended 6 - 6, with all the points being scored by Stephanie
Bruce and Mendham's superstar Kelley Suminski. As the game
continued, Mendham's crisp and rapid passes (in some half court
possessions the ball seldom touched the floor) began to break
down Summit's zone. Summit was also plagued by a large number
of unforced turnovers. In the final analysis, Mendham just had
too much firepower. Stephanie Bruce led Summit scoring
with 10 points.
