Summit continued to be plagued by the inability to stop
the big gain. Sixty percent of Parsippany's total yardage (284
yards) occurred on just 4 plays, each of which led to a touchdown.
That's an average of 71 yards per play for those four. On Parsippany's
first play of their second possession they ran off 73 yards from
their 6 to Summit's 21. Five plays later they scored. Parsippany's
next possession occurred after taking a Keith Schroeder
punt on their 26 yard line. The first play was a pass that covered
74 yards and a touchdown. On their following possession a run
of 87 yards resulted in their third TD. That's the kind of day
it was. On the bright side, Summit rushed for 212 yards. Dominic
Fornaro had a very big day gaining 170 of those yards.
On Summits's first possession they moved the ball from their
49 to a first down on the Parsippany 12 yard line. This was accomplished
largely on the running of Fornaro and Sophomore Mike
Nelson, a key 12 yard pass from Freshman Schroeder
to Fornaro kept the drive going. Unfortunately a fourth
down pass was intercepted on the 6. Summit's only score came on
a drive that started on Summit's 24 yard line. The key play was
a 50 yard run by Fornaro that ended on Parsippany's ten.
Two plays later Fornaro scored from the eight. The PAT pass to
Nelson was good to make the score 20-8. Summit's next possession
began on their 24 and drove all the way to Parsippany's 20 before
it ended in a fumble.
Schroeder's passing statistics were better than they
might appear because two of his incomplete passes were because
of intentionally spiking the ball to stop the clock. Schroeder
was harassed continually by the Parsippany front line and was
sacked 6 times.
