This was not a happy start to Summit's football season. Parsippany Hills returned the openning kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown. Fortunately it was called back on a clipping penalty, but it set the tone for the game. Parsippny Hills was set back to their 15, but easily drove the length of the field in nine plays. PH scored the first three times they had possession in the 1st half. At the same time they held Summit to 3 first downs in the half. In the three Parsippany Hills drives they completed all 8 passes they attempted. Really bad news for Summit occurred late in the half when Summit's QB/DE, Jon Campagna suffered a severe injury to his jaw and had to leave for the remainder of the game. He was replaced by sophomore Matt Benedetti.

The 3rd Quarter was more of the same as PH scored both times they had possession. On Summit's first possession John Martini ripped off Summit's 2nd best rushing gain of the day (13 yards, he also had the best gain, 30yds, in the 1st quarter) but dislocated his elbow on the tackle. He was out for the game and may miss part of the rest of the season. Summit's only score occurred in the 4th quarter when Benedetti hit Bill Wheeler for a 46 yard touchdown pass. Chris Slama kicked the extra Point.
