Summit got its first win of the season as they dominated the
game after a first quarter that held some concern for the Summit
faithful. Summit's first possession went nowhere and Whippany
Park started their first possession on their 32. Eleven plays
later they had a 1st down on Summit's 11 yardline. The defense
stiffened and forced a field goal attempt that was blocked. Summit
took over on the 17 and started a sustained drive that ended in
a touchdown 12 plays later. The drive was highlighted by the running
of Dominic Fornaro and Mike Nelson and a key 23
yard pass from Matt Benedetti to Mike Nelson. That
touchdown stood up through the half which ended 7-0.
Summit kicked off to begin the 2nd half and a WP fumble on
their 2nd play gave Summit the ball on the WP 36. Fornaro
gained 22 yards to the 14 but a penalty then moved the ball back
to the 24. Two more runs by Fornaro got Summit back to
the 4 but another holding penalty put it back to the 14. A Benedetti
pass to Fornaro got the nine yards back and Dominic scored
his second TD on the next play. On the kickoff the WP returner
slipped at the 4 yardline. After going nowhere a short punt and
an 8 yard return gave Summit the ball on WP's 29. Five plays later
Karim Wilburn scored to put Summit up 21-0. Summit's final
score came in the 4th quarter. It was set up by a 40 yard pass
play from Benedetti to Fornaro.
