This may have been the strangest Summit game in many years. In fact, it was almost like two separate games. For the first 3 1/2 innings Dover was completely in charge and Summit was like the "gang who couldn't shoot straight". Dover's ace pitcher, Hrynio, was masterful for 3 innings. He shut out Summit allowing only one hit and striking out 5 of the last 6 batters he faced in those innings. At the same time Matt Williams was struggling and getting no defensive help from the team. In the first three innings Dover scored 7 runs on only 4 hits, but was aided by 4 errors, 4 walks and 3 hit batters. Matt Benedetti took over the pitching for the 4th inning and Dover notched 2 more runs on 1 hit and 4 walks. Going to the bottom of the 4th inning things looked pretty bleak for Summit who was on the wrong end of a 9-0 score. That was only 1 run short of the 10 runs that would terminate the game after 5 innings. Some of the fans were considering that it might be the merciful way to end things.

But things began to change in the bottom of the 4th inning. The seemingly invincible Hyrnio gave up walks to Jon Campagna and Benedetti, followed by a single by Nick Monaco to load the bases. A walk to Adam Breene forced in a run to make it a 9-1 game. This was nothing compared to the collapse that took place in Summit's half of the 5th inning. Hyrnio completely lost his control. The bases were loaded when Williams got on base on a error, Carey walked and Nelson singled. At this point Hyrnio proceeded to walk three consecutive batters, at one point throwing 10 consecutive balls. This forced in 3 runs. Now the score was 9-4. Hyrnio was replaced by Wulfong who promptly gave up a double to Adam Breene resulting in 2 more runs. Rob Delgado walked to reload the bases and Williams singled to drive in another run. The final run of the inning scored when Ryan Carey was walked to force in a run. Seven runs scored on only 3 hits but there were 6 walks and an error. The score was now 9-8, a complete reversal of form from the first 3 1/2 innings.

Williams returned to the mound to pitch the 6th inning and allowed one run on a walk and a triple. The inning was saved by a great double play, Williams to Campagna for one out and Campagna to Monaco to cut down the runner trying to score from 3rd. Now Summit was down 10-8 going to the bottom of the 6th. No one would have predicted what transpired in the 6th. Summit picked up 8 runs on 3 hits , 4 walks and 2 Dover errors. The key hits came from a lead off single by Benedetti, a 2 RBI single by Carey and a 3 RBI triple by Monaco. Unbelievably, Summit was up 16-10, but who would pitch the top of the 7th inning?

Coach Dietz turned to Jon Campagna. Campagna had been masterful in relief in his Sophomore year, but hadn't pitched since because of an injury to his elbow that will require surgery later this year. No one expected to see him on the mound at any time this year. The 7th got off to a rocky start with a lead off triple, but a line drive was snagged by Nelson, who had moved to shortstop when Campagna went from first base to the mound. The next batter popped up to Delgado, who had taken over at 3rd base. Now there were two away, one more out and the miracle would be complete. A pair of Dover hits produced 2 runs, but Campagna managed to strike out the next batter and game was over.Williams was credited with the win.

Between the two teams there were 20 walks, 4 hit batters and 8 errors in 6 1/2 innings. That must be some kind of a record. Dover was 4-0 coming into this game.
