This was possible the best overall game of the season. It had everything; exciting plays, rallies, lead changes, good defense and best of all, a Summit victory over a quality conference foe. As a result, it raised our conference record to 7-3. Matt Williams pitched his first game since being injured in the Morris Hills game. He threw 7 good innings, scattering 8 hits, giving up only 2 walks and allowing only 3 earned runs. The Summit offense responded every time that Hanover Park rallied to tie or take a lead. Matt Benedetti showed that "mono" couldn't stop him as he went 4 for 4 with 2 singles, a double, a triple and 3 RBIs.

Summit took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Paul Krupa (playing 3rd base for the ailing Mike Nelson) got on base on an error by the HP 3rd baseman (the only HP error of the game). He advanced to 2nd when Chris Kaiser walked and scored on Benedetti's 2nd single of the game. Hanover Park tied the score when Novalis tripled and came in on a sacrifice fly. However, Summit regained the lead, 3-1, in their half of the 4th. Kaiser got a lead off walk, Ryan Carey doubled and Benedetti drove them both in with a double. Hanover Park rallied for a run in the 5th inning and two more in the 6th to take a 4-3 lead. Again Summit rallied in their 6th with two runs to go back on top 5-4. Benedetti started things off with a triple and Monaco drew a walk. Then with one out, Williams slammed a double to drive in both runners. A single by Adam Breene and a walk to Rob Delgado loaded the bases, but a fielder's choice and a strikeout meant that Summit went into the final inning with only a one run lead.

HP's best hitter, Novalis, led off the 7th inning by cracking a ground ball that looked like a hit. Carey had to deep to his right to grab the ball and then whirl and throw off balance to try and catch the fleet Novalis. The ball got there in time but bounced in the dirt in front of 1st base. Jon Campagna made a great play digging the ball out of the dirt for the out. It is hard to over estimate the importance of that out because the next batter singled. After that, Williams got the next batter to popup to Krupa. Now Summit was one out away from victory, but the tension continued as the next batter singled to advance the runner to 3rd base. Williams got the final batter to ground out "Krupa to Campagna".

Summit has set something of a record the last few game, and isn't one that they enjoy. In the Morris Hills game they stranded 15 runner. They left 9 on base against Cranford and left 13 in this game. A total of 37 runners left on base in three games.
