In many ways this was an offensive and defensive disaster. Nine errors made it impossible to win this one. . For example, in Mendham's first inning they scored 4 runs on 0 (zero) hits and 4 errors. But even with a flawless defense we still wouldn't have won with only two hits.

The only silver lining in this dark cloud was the fact that James Sivertsen pitched very well for six innings. Over those first six innings he gave up only 3 hits and 1 earned run. This was only his second outing after returning to the team from chemotherapy. He clearly tired in the 7th inning as he gave up 4 hits and 2 walks before being relieved by Freshman Steve Bariexca. Bariexca, making his first varsity pitching appearance, gave up 3 hits before settling down to retire the side.
