Scott Croswell had his best outing of the season
in the victory over Morris Hills. In 5 innings he gave up only
5 hits, 4 runs (only 2 of them earned). Entering the 6th inning
he had allowed only 2 base on balls. In the 6th Croswell had
some control problems and walked the first 3 batters to load
the bases. With Summit enjoying a 9-2 lead, Coach Dietz went
to the bull pen and brought in Paul Krupa with the bases
loaded and no one out. Krupa's first pitch hit the batter
and forced in a run. After a strikeout, MH singled to drive in
a second run. The next batter rifled a shot that hit Krupa in
the stomach. He managed to hang on to the ball for the out and
then threw to 1st base for an inning ending double play. Both
runs were charged to Croswell. In the bottom of the 7th
inning MH had runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out before Krupa
got the last two players to pop up and strike out.
Summit got two runs in the 1st inning when Williams
was hit by a pitch and was driven home by Mike Nelson's
double. A single by Jon Campagna brought home Nelson.
Three more were added in the 3rd inning. Ryan Carey led
off with a double and scored when Nelson got on base via
an error. Campagna walked, but Nelson was erased
on a double play. With 2 outs, Nick Monaco hit a home
run over the right field fence to make the score 5-0. Summit's
final four runs came in the 5th inning. Campagna got things
started with a walk and Matt Benedetti singled him to
3rd base. Monaco got on, and Campagna came home,
when the 2nd baseman made an error on a possible double play
ball. A single by Adam Breene scored Benedetti
and a great squeeze play bunt by Mike Mormak allowed Monaco
to score with the third run of the inning. A single by Carey
drove in Breene with the final Summit run.
