What started out as if it would be an easy victory turned ugly when Morris Hills rallied for 8 runs in the 3rd and 4th innings. Fortunately, Summit added 2 runs in the 5th and another in the 6th, after a 15 min lightning delay, to seal the victory. With this win Summit improved its conference record to 9-7, with two games remaining to be played next week. Mike D'Ecclessis started and went 4 1/3 innings and was relieved by James Sivertsen with Summit in the lead 10-9. Sivertsen pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed no runs.

Summit had a big first inning that began with lead off single by Mike Nelson. Walks to Ryan Carey and Jon Campagna loaded the bases and Adam Breene delivered a two run single. D'Ecclessis singled in Campagna then, after Rob Delgado was walked, Chris Kaiser tripled to clear the bases. Summit made it a 10-4 game in the 3rd inning when Kaiser singled, Nelson got on via an error and Carey singled to drive in two runs. Carey stole second and ultimately scored when the catcher threw the ball into left field attempting to stop Carey from stealing third.

Potential disaster struck in the 5th inning when, with 2 out, D'Ecclessis walked three straight to load the bases. A fly ball to left center, for the final out, could have been handled by either fielder but fell between them because of a communication failure. To make matters worse the throw in missed the cutoff man and rolled out of play allowing everyone to score. The inning ended with the score 10-9.

Fortunately, Summit picked up 2 runs in the 5th. Nelson doubled with 2 out and Carey singled him to 3rd. Nelson alertly scored on a wild pitch and Carey came home when Campagna doubled. Summit's final run came in the 6th inning. Breene singled and went to 2nd on an error.Sivertsen laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Mike Mormak (who was running for Breene) to 3rd base. A sacrifice fly by Sivertsen scored the run.

Breene went 3 for 4, with 2 RBIs, for the 3rd time in the last four games and Nelson also picked up 3 hits. Nelson has had 5 hits in his last 7 at bats and has clearly shaken off the effects of his bout with "mono". He made a number of fine defensive plays at third.
