It is hard to write about this loss, it still hurts. Summit had taken a 6-0 lead going into the last of the 5th inning. In their 5th, New Providence scored 4 times, all unearned. Summit made it a 7-4 ball game in the 6th inning when Jon Campagna was walked and Nick Monaco doubled to to score Campagna. Matt Williams retired the NP side in order in bottom of the 6th inning. Williams notched two Ks and an infield out, so things looked promising. Summit failed to score in the 7th so NP came came up needing 3 runs to tie the game. NP led off with a single and a walk. A ground out allowed one run to score. The next batter flied out to left field. One more out and we go home a winner. But the next batter hit a solid single to drive in a run and it was now 7-6. That brought up the NP cleanup hitter, Fiorelli. He nailed a 3-1 pitch that almost hit the high school on the fly and it was all over.

Summit picked up 4 runs in the first off a single by Ryan Carey, a walk to Rob Delgado, a sacrifice fly by Campagna, a single by Williams, a double by Adam Breene and another sacrifice fly by James Sivertsen. Summit scored again in the 2nd on some fine base running by Carey. He singled to start the inning, stole second, moved to 3rd on a fielder's choice and stole home on a pick off play. Summit's sixth run came off a a double by Williams and a single by Sivertsen.

Williams was very impressive early. He put down the first 11 batters he faced. NP broke the no hitter in their 4th with a 2 out single, but didn't score. NP began to hit the ball harder in the 5th inning, yet through 6 innings Williams had only given up 5 hits and zero earned runs.

Matt Benedetti and Mike Nelson are still sidelined with "Mono" amd Paul Krupa was absent from the lineup due to illness.

NP made a pitching change late in the 3rd inning with Summit up 6-0. The reliever allowed only one hit over the remaining 4 innings.
