Scott Croswell pitched no-hit ball for 5 innings. In the last of the 6th inning he gave up a double followed by a walk to start the inning. With a 5-0 lead Coach Dietz went to the bull pen and brought in Jon Campagna. The usually very reliable Campagna had a little trouble getting his engine running right as he walked the next batter and the #3 hitter blasted a grand slam over the center field fence and suddenly it was a 5-4 game with no outs. Par Hills managed another run before the inning was over so Summit went into the 7th inning with a tied ball game. The game probably shouldn't have ever been that close because Summit stranded 15 runners, most of them in scoring position, in the course of 8 innings. By contrast Par Hills got the most out of their few hit as the left only 3 runners stranded.

Summit scored once in the 1st inning when Ryan Carey was walked and stole 2nd and 3rd. He was driven in by a Nick Monaco single. Three more were added in the 3rd inning. Rob Delgado got things started with a walk. A double by Nick Monaco scored one run. A single by Adam Breene, a walk to Chris Kaiser and a single by Mike D'Ecclessis scored the second run and left the bases loaded. Paul Krupa drew a walk to force in the 3rd run. The 5th run came in the 5th inning on a pair of walks and an RBI single by Carey. With the scored tied entering the top of the 7th, a double by Krupa, a walk to Carey and an error on the pitcher put runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. Unfortunately, the Par Hills reliever struck out the next two batters. Campagna put Par Hills down 1-2-3 so we went to extra innings.

Monaco and Breene got walks to get things off on the right foot. Kaiser laid down a good sacrifice bunt to move them to 2nd and 3rd. A balk allowed Monaco to score. After a strike out, Matt Williams (who was barely able to walk) drew a pinch hit walk and Mike Mormak was also walked to load the bases and bring up the top of the order. Carey rapped a 2 run single and the score stood at 8-5. Delgado then stroked a single to center and it took a perfect throw and relay to catch Mormak at the plate for the 3rd out.

Campagna continued on the mound and got the 1st batter to ground out 5-3. The next batter singled to left and the ball got past the fielder to allow the batter to reach 3rd base. The next batter was out on a high pop foul that both Monaco and Campagna had to dig to get. Monaco made the catch, but the runner on third, sensing that there was no one to cover home, came home with a run. A single was followed by a fly to center and the game was over.

A major long term problem surfaced. Matt Benedetti joined Mike Nelson on the sidelines with "mono". That means the two top hitters on the squad are out of action for an indefinite period.
