Dover grabbed a 7-4 early lead but Summit went on a 12-0
run, led by Ryan Carey and Kurt Forsyth, to go
ahead 16-7. Summit never trailed again, but it wasn't as easy
as the final score might indicate. Every time Summit would make
a run Dover would creep back into the game. For example, Summit
started fast in the 2nd quarter and built a 23-13 lead, and it
looked like they were in command when Dover hit two 3s and a
2 to make it a 2 point game at the half. After the 1st half had
ended Dover's Travis Wilfong was hit with a technical foul so
the 2nd half began with Carey at the free throw line.
He sank both shots and Summit got the ball out of bounds. The
lead was quickly built to 8 on baskets by Forsyth and
Jon Campagna. In spite of the fact that Carey sank
2 more 3s, Dover finished the 3rd quarter only down by 2. Dover
opened the final quarter by tieing the score at 36-36. Fortunately,
a basket by Carey and two by Forsyth made it a
43-36 game. But again Dover just wouldn't stay down. With 26 seconds
remaining Dover hit a layup to make it a 3 point game (53-50).The
Dover coach immediately called a time out, but he was out of
timeouts so a technical foul was called. Carey sank both
free throws to put the game out of reach. Carey and Forsyth
accounted for all but 8 of Summit's 59 points. |
