For the second game in a row Summit entered the fourth
quarter with a solid lead (46-41) only to be beaten in the final
stanza. The 4th quarter was all Hanover Park as they started the
quarter off with a 14-3 scoring splurge that put them up 55-49.
HP held Summit to a scant 6 points in the quarter on a pair of
3-pointers (by Jason Holmes and Ted Schraft). It
was a big 3-point night for both teams as Summit scored 27 points
and HP picked up 24 points by that route. Summit was forced to
the outside shot because HP's tall center, Steve Justin, repeatedly
rejected shots in the paint. The importance of the 3-point shot
was announced at the very beginning when HP's Capano hit four
3s in a row early in the first quarter.
HP jumped to a 19-14 lead by the end of the quarter but Summit
closed the gap to two at the half. Summit's first half scoring
was led by Ryan Carey, who got all of his 9 points in the
first half. Jason Holmes had 6 points and Jon Campagna
5. The third quarter, Summit's best, was led by Kurt Forsyth's
9 points plus 5 from Lamar Freeman.

Summit battled to a 24-24 tie at the end of the first
half, led by 9 points by Alex Sprinzen and 8 points from
Dan McGaw. Summit broke away from Hanover Park in the 3rd
quarter by outscoring HP 24-12. Sprinzen and McGaw
produced 21 of those 24 points. With a 12 point lead entering
the final quarter, things looked pretty safe for Summit. Unfortunately,
HP went on a 10-2 scoring spree to make it a 4 point game (50-46)
. At about this same point Summit's leading scorer, Sprinzen,
fouled out. But Summit's ship was righted as Mike Mormak
sank 4 consecutive free throws and Gerg Mortenson added
two more to secure the win.
