In spite of the final score this was a very exciting
game. There was a tremendous amount of student enthusiasm and
support for the team. This was probably the noisiest game of
the year. Mendham got off to a great start as they scored the
first 8 points of the game. However, Summit fought hard to close
to within 2 points (26-28) and had the ball mid way through the
3rd quarter. At this point Mendham was in shock. Unfortunately,
a few Summit miscues led to 4 quick Mendham baskets and the quarter
ended with Summit down eight and the momentum was lost. Summit
was unable to make any head way in the final quarter as Mendham
sank 9 out 10 free throws down the stretch.
While Summit was perfect from the foul line, they only got
4 tries. In contrast, Mendham scored on 19 of their 22 attempts.
Jon Campagna led the Summit scoring with 14 points. Kurt
Forsyth led the rebounding with nine. Summit was limited
to 33 shots but managed to sink 14 for a 48% night. |
