WOW! This was a great game. Lamar Freeman
capped his best shooting night with a three pointer from the
corner at the buzzer to give Summit the victory. Things looked
pretty dark for Summit in the first quarter when Parsippany's
Curry racked up 12 points and Parsippany grabbed a 21-11 lead.
What was worse, they built the lead by dominating Summit in every
aspect of the game. It looked like it was going to be a major
blowout. Summit began to get its act together in the 2nd quarter.
They held Curry to a single free throw and reduced Parsippany's
margin to 8 points. Ryan Carey led the 2nd quarter revival
with 6 points while Kurt Forsyth and Gereno Tan
each contributed 4 points. Things really turned around in the
3rd quarter when Summit stepped up their defensive full court
pressure, forcing numerous turnovers. Freeman's 7 points
and Carey's 6 points led the scoring. Entering the 4th
quarter Summit had turned a possible blowout into a 47-51 game.
Summit continued the pressure in the 4th quarter and slowly closed
to within a point at 54-55. With a couple of minutes left Summit
took its first lead when Gereno Tan hit a 3-pointer. A
field goal by Parsippany tied it again at 57-57. A field goal
by Jon Campagna regained the lead 59-57. Forsyth added
another basket and Summit suddenly held a 4 point lead. Parsippany
made it 61-59, but Freeman answered with a basket to put
the score at 63-59. Parsippany scored to get back to 63-61. Two
Parsippany free throws with 13 seconds left on the clock tied
the game at 63-63. Summit's first go ahead shot missed but the
ball was kicked out to Freeman in the corner who lofted
a shot that went in as the buzzer was sounding.
Parsippany's superior height dominated the backboards and
held Summit to its fewest rebounds since the Mendham game. However,
Summit compensated by hitting 27 of it 53 shots. Freeman
hit a remarkable 7 of 8 shots. |
