Summit began its season with a loss to a strong Parsippany
Hills squad, but in doing so they gave notice that they will be
a strong force in the Iron Hills Conference. The final score doesn't
reflect how close this game was. With 14sec. left Summit was down
3 points and had the ball with a chance to send the game into
overtime. Unfortunately, Par Hills' quickness enabled them to
steal the inbounds pass and Summit's bid for the upset ended.
To a large extent this was a great defensive battle. Par Hills
employed a very aggressive, and quick, man-to-man while Summit
unveiled a stifling zone. For example, the 2nd quarter began with
Summit down 13-9 but the zone defense held Par Hills scoreless
for the next 6 minutes. This enabled Summit to close the gap to
one point, 18-17. As was true in the football season, Par Hills
was led by 6'-7" 240 lbs. Johnnie Morant and his cohort Cobbs
(between them they garnered 30 of Par Hills' 42 points). Kurt
Forsyth contributed 10 of his team high 18 points in the first
half to help Summit stay close. Summit continued the zone pressure
in the 3rd quarter and a pair of field goals by Jon Campagna,
four points by Ryan Carey and a key 3-pointer by Lamar
Freeman helped Summit gain a 30-30 tie as the quarter ended.
Par Hill's Morant scored 5 points early in the 4th, but a Forsyth
FG got Summit to within 3 points. Morant made it 37-32. Hoops
by Forsyth and Freeman again made it one point game.
After another basket by Par Hills, Forsyth scored again
and the score was 39-38 with 38 seconds left in the game. Summit
was forced to foul and Par Hills took a three point lead. With
14 seconds left Summit took a time out at midfield but the inbounds
pass was stolen and it was all over.
It was gratifying to see a large turnout for the game. The
gym was almost 3/4 filled and a big proportion of the noisy and
spirited crowd was students.

tie the score at half time. Freshman Alex Sprinzen led
the 1st half scoring with 11 of his game high 23 points. In the
3rd quarter Summit outscored Par Hill 22-18 to grab a 41-37 lead.
Sprinzen dropped in another 9 points, Freshman Steve
