This had be be the most diappointing game of the year.
Having beaten West Essex by 28 points earlier in the year Summit
certainly had reason to think thay could move their record to
10-6. The game got off to a bad start when WE jumped to an 8-2
lead. However, Summit came roaring back with tough defense and
went on an 18-2 tear. The quarter ended with Summit ahead 20-10,
with Kurt Forsyth contributing 9 points. Everything seemed
to back on track, but then Summit ran into a stone wall in the
second quarter and was out gunned 17-4, with WE's Navarro getting
13 of their 17 points. Summit's only points were the four scored
by Forsyth. The scoring doldrums continued in the 3rd
quarter as WE built their lead to 8 points. Their lead grew to
11 points when Navarro hit a 3-pointer early in the final quarter.
At this point things looked pretty bleak, but to their credit
Summit fought back. A basket by Forsyth was followed by
2 Forsyth free throws. Jon Campagna hit for 2 points
and then Gereno Tan drained a pair of 3s and Summit, amazingly,
had a 45-44 lead. The lead was short lived because Summit fouled
Navarro on a 3 point attempt that fell short and he hit all of
them. Despite 2 more points from Ryan Carey and 6 more
from Forsyth Summit was unable to gain ground because WE managed
to sink 11 foul shots down the stretch..
Summit shot 42% (22 of 52) from the field and were led by
Forsyth's 27. WE's Navarro had his career high 37 points |
