If you just look at the score you might think it was an
easy win for Summit. With the exception of the 2nd quarter Chatham
played Summit almost even. Chatham took a 11-10 1st quarter lead,
but Summit turned up the defensive pressure in the 2nd quarter.
In the 2nd, Summit forced many turnovers and held Chatham scoreless
for the first 6 1/2 minutes of the quarter. Chatham finally managed
3 points in the final 1 1/2 minutes but Summit's 14 points (spread
between 6 players) gave Summit a 10 point advantage. Summit's
aggressive defense took its toll in the foul department as four
starters piled up 3 fouls each by the half. Early in the 3rd Chatham's
Jess Sheats got hot and closed the gap to 5 points. But a key
3 pointer by Liz Sheridan got things back on track and
Summit closed the quarter up by 10 again. In the 4th Danielle
Proper, who had been relatively quiet in the scoring, scored
9 of her team high 13 points. Sheridan added 4 points and
the game was put away. Summit's much superior bench strength played
a significant role in the victory as Summit got scoring from 8
players and good defense from everyone who played.
