This game was almost the mirror image of last years UCT
final against Elizabeth. Unfortunately, this time it was Elizabeth's
turn to put on a big rally in the 4th quarter and Summit's turn
to misfire. For most of the first three quarters it was a dog
fight, with Summit breaking out to a 7 point lead going into
the final quarter. Hopes were running high, but then the shots
stopped dropping. Elizabeth began the 4th quarter with a 13-2
run to open a 4 point lead. Finally a pair of free throws by
Stephanie Bruce and a fast break layup by Danielle Proper
(off a great assist by Bruce) tied the score. But those were
the last points Summit would score. In the final 8 minutes Summit
could only hit on 2 of their 12 shots. Elizabeth's Shante Hunter
had a big night as she scored 29 (19 in the first half).
As has been true for most of the season Stephanie Bruce
was a pillar of strength as she scored 18 points (8 for 8 at
the foul line) and hauled in her usual quota of rebounds.
The Morris Hills game has been canceled so the next game will
be against Newark Tech (at Summit) in the State Tournament |
