This was a heck of a game that was a lot closer than the
final score would indicate. Kelly Suminski , with 35 points, provided
all but 18 of Mendham's total. The game seemed over early when
Mendham jumped to a 2-7 lead, but Summit stormed back to go ahead
10-7, and led 15-14 after the first quarter. Some sloppy passing
hurt Summit, but their all-court defense forced a number of turnovers.
Unfortunately, it also resulted in a lot of Summit fouls. Summit
had 21 fouls called on it compared to only 9 for Mendham. The
first half ended tied 25-25. Suminski took over in the 3rd quarter,
scoring 4 baskets and 6 free throws to put Mendham up by 6 entering
the final quarter. Summit didn't give up, and brought the score
to 40-44 with only 2:06 remaining, but Mendham's foul shooting
preserved the win. Karen Jann led the Summit scoring
with 14 points.
Lauren Ertz hurt herself in a fall during practice and saw
limited action. Katie Tully was injured in the third period
and Danielle Proper fouled out with 6:05 remaining in the
game. Summit shot 21 for 45 for 46%
The JV's lost 18-38
