Summit brought Parsippany Hills' 9 game winning streak
to an end, but it wasn't pretty. After losing to Summit and Mendham
Parsippany Hills had won all their games up to tonight. But they
were literally helpless before Summit's first half defensive
blitz. There were stretches where they were unable to get the
ball across half court on 2-3 successive possessions. Summit
forced so many turnovers that they were able to take a remarkable
48 shots in the 1st half. That's about par for an entire game.
Unfortunately, Summit was only able to sink 12 of those 48 for
a pitiful 25%. A tremendous number of the missed shots were easy
shots in the paint. In spite of a really bad shooting half Summit
walked off the court with a 15 point lead. Midway in the 3rd
quarter the lead built to 18 points and the fans figured it was
all over. But Par Hills turned up the defensive and offensive
heat. The lead was cut to 13 by the end of the quarter. At the
start of the 4th quarter Par Hills had a 7-0 run to cut the lead
to 6 points. Karen Jann scored Summit first basket of
the quarter at the 4 minute mark. Two Par Hills baskets and a
score by Danielle Proper made it a 6 point game again.
Summit eventually regained control of the game on a hoop by Jann
and 4 free throws by Katie Tully.
Karen Jann led the Summit scoring with 13 points and
Summit got the victory on a bad shooting night when they sank
only 22 of their 75 shots. |
