Summit advanced to the UCT Semi-Finals with a lopsided
victory over Scotch Plains. Summit will meet Elizabeth, who had
an easy win over Roselle Catholic, on Wednesday night at Dunn
Arena. The 1st quarter of the game belied how things would eventually
end as Scotch Plains showed a tough defense and and fought Summit
to a 14-12 quarter. Eight of Summit's 14 points came from freshman
Karen Jann, who eventually led all scorers with 21 points.
As the game went on, Summit continued to force Scotch Plains
turnovers that led to scores. Eventually the defensive pressure
wore down Scotch Plain's offense and they scored only 17 points
over the final 3 quarters. Stephanie Bruce continued to
demonstrate that she is one of the premier rebounders in the
state as she grabbed twelve balls off the backboards. Bruce
also added 17 points for yet another "double-double".
Danielle Proper also was in double figures with 12 points.
Summit hit 26 of 47 shots (55%). An unofficial look
back over the last four years indicated that Stephanie Bruce
now has scored 793 career points through the Scotch Plains
game. |
